Heritage Agency Co-Hosts Forum on Hunger & Aging, May 21

The Heritage Area Agency on Aging will co-host “Hunger and Aging: A Conversation for Iowans” on Friday, May 21, 2010 from. The agency and a group of partner agencies and groups will shed light on the issue of undernourished older Iowans and identify initial strategies to address this critical issue.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at The Kirkwood Center,* Kirkwood BLVD and 76th Avenue SW, on the south side of the main Cedar Rapids campus. The event is free and open to all interested people, with pre-registration requested to cover refreshments and materials.
The Hunger and Aging forum will have interactive discussion and two expert panels with representatives from federal, state, and local agencies who are working to address current food insecurities among seniors. Keynote speakers include USDA Undersecretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services Kevin Concannon; and Enid Borden, president and CEO of Meals on Wheels Association of America.

The Hunger and Aging event is co-sponsored by the Heritage Agency, along Kirkwood Community College, Linn County Elderly Services Community Planning Committee, Johnson County Task Force, Johnson County Livable Community, Witwer Senior Center and the United Way of East Central Iowa. The program is also supported by The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, Hawkeye Foodservice, Sunny Delight, Motts, Sara Lee, Rich's, General Mills, Frito Lay, and Kruger Paper.
