IOWA CITY -- The University of Iowa Center for the Book has received a $256,000 grant from a private foundation, continuing a pattern of support from the anonymous donor, UI officials said today.
The three-year grant will support graduate student assistantships and a printing lectureship, and support professional development and programming for students and faculty. Since 2006, the Center for the Book has earned in donations four times its annual operating budget.
A program in the UI Graduate College, the Center for the Book offers courses in the history and art of the book. Students can earn a graduate certificate in book arts, book technologies and book studies. The certificate is offered as a stand-alone credential or as a complement to a graduate degree in a conventional department. A proposal is under review for a master of fine arts degree in the b0ok arts.
