Planned Parenthood doesn’t help for profits
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I object to Abby Johnson's twisted, misleading rhetoric (May 30, “Stop telemed abortions in Iowa”) around the subject of “the abortion pill,” known as RU-486.
No matter where your heart lies on the difficult subject of abortion, the truth is that RU-486 has been safely and effectively used in Europe for years. Having worked for Planned Parenthood, Johnson should know that, and I think she does.
I find it curious that the anti-choice movement consistently focuses its ire upon medical providers of safe and legal abortion, instead of going after the thousands of deadbeat men who abandon their baby mamas to the agonizing decision of either raising a child by themselves or seeking to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.
Johnson's rant about how abortion is Planned Parenthood's biggest moneymaker is ridiculous. Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization dedicated to quietly providing services that people want and need.
What do you see in the photo accompanying this article? A bunch of men with bullhorns, screaming about what women should or should not do with their bodies. Until the day arrives that men can become pregnant and have to face that same terrible situation themselves, these guys should just shut up and leave women free to make that decision themselves in the privacy of their own homes or doctor's office. Because it's a woman's right to make that decision herself.
And I think Johnson should know that, too.
