(AP) - David Jamison has won a two-way primary for the Republican nomination for state treasurer and will try to unseat veteran Democrat Michael Fitzgerald in the November general election.
Fitzgerald has held the office since 1982.
Jamison, of Ames, beat James Heavens, of Dyersville on Tuesday. Both are businessmen.
The treasurer is in charge of investing for the state, and is also a member of the Executive Council, a five-member panel of statewide elected officials that conducts administrative business.
