The Northern Iowa Panthers are ESPY nominees
Mike Hlas Jun. 24, 2010 12:26 pm
It comes as no surprise, but the Northern Iowa men's basketball team is a candidate to win an ESPY.
And I think the Panthers will surely win it.
UNI is one of four nominees for "Best Upset," thanks to its 69-67 win over Kansas in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
The other candidates are:
Frankie Edgar over B.J. Penn (Mixed Martial Arts)
Hawaii's softball team upsetting No. 1 Alabama to reach the Women's College World Series
Y.E. Yang outdueling Tiger Woods to win last year's PGA Championship
None of these grabbed the nation like UNI's win over Kansas.
UNI coach Ben Jacobson and players Ali Farokhmanesh and Jordan Eglseder have been invited to the ESPYs, July 14 in Los Angeles.
Farokhmanesh, who is playing in the Prime Time League this summer, will re-live his star moment when his daring 3-pointer with 35 seconds left helped stave off the No. 1-seeded Jayhawks.
