Term limits would solve Congress’ ills
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Our country was founded as a republic. As such, supreme power rests in its citizens and is represented by an elected Congress. If that is true, why did a major health bill reform pass while illegal immigration reforms did not pass? Whatever happened to majority rule?
This would seem to indicate Congress is not representing its citizens. Our congressional government is broken and needs to be fixed. We need a congressional term limit amendment.
History indicates it is very difficult to vote out incumbents. They have a definite advantage of being re-elected. They build an empire in their district or state by adding “pork barrel” legislation to benefit their constituents. This has been repeated for centuries but recently this graft was exposed by efforts to pass health care Reform.
Having term limits would provide new life to our government. It would force both parties to provide well-qualified candidates in their primaries.
A term limit amendment must be passed by two-thirds of Congress, so vote for a candidate who support term limits.
