Driving 500 miles for eye care is worth it

Jul. 2, 2010 12:01 am
Health care has become a major issue for those of us on Medicare. Many doctors choose not to take Medicare patients any longer, but I found a place in Cedar Rapids that treats patients with respect regardless of their insurance plans.
A couple of weeks ago I had cataract surgery in Cedar Rapids. Yes, I drove 500 miles around trip and stayed two nights in a motel just to have my surgery done by Dr. Lee Birchansky at the Fox Eye Surgical Center. What a pleasant surprise! No hospital atmosphere, no hospital odors and friendly, efficient personnel.
The whole procedure was quick and relaxed. Even if you have to drive 500 miles, it is definitely worth it.
