Conlin supports education, youth

Jul. 4, 2010 12:01 am
Roxanne Conlin knows that education is a part of a process of lifelong learning, from early-childhood programs to postsecondary opportunities. All of Iowa's young people deserve an education of the highest quality.
Conlin believes that the three R's are paramount, but that the newest technology must prepare students for the next generation. There must be funding in place to make teaching in Iowa appealing, with funding to raise salaries and create incentives such as tuition reimbursement to attract teachers to rural and low-achieving schools.
Conlin acknowledges that college is not the optimum choice for all high school graduates. Schools and businesses must partner to link students with skills they will need in the work force. Conlin suggests that one avenue would be to offer tax credits to small businesses that provide apprenticeships or mentoring programs. She is a proponent of the community college concept, speaking out for increased funding for the Perkins Career and Technical Education Program. The Perkins Act promotes rigorous technology programs as a priority for federal allocations.
Please cast you vote for Conlin in November. A vote for her is a vote for education that spans a child's lifetime.
