C.R. reader still very thankful for his Gazette

As we celebrated the anniversary of the 2008 flood and the Fourth of July, there was a lot of talk about heroes.
In Cedar Rapids, we have two “unsung heroes.” First are the people responsible for delivering The Gazette. Every day, despite floods, ice storms or other obstacles, the newspaper lands on the doorsteps of thousands of subscribers. These intrepid individuals deserve our thanks for overcoming myriad challenges to see to it that we have a paper to read every morning.
Second are the people who run The Gazette. Thanks to them, our community still has a local daily newspaper. When you see all of the papers that have folded, when you realize that there are communities much larger than ours that no longer have a daily paper, you wonder how they do it.
Yes, the paper has changed. It has had to if it was going to survive. But we still have locally owned source of information that “comforts the afflicted and afflicts the comfortable.” Unfortunately some people will only realize the value of The Gazette if it were to ever disappear and then it will be too late.
