Washington duo fielding multiple hoops offers

And this is the offseason.Cedar Rapids Washington basketball players were hard at it Monday morning, doing various shooting, passing, rebounding and defensive drills. Two huge fans blew in open doorways, though it didn't seem to make the Warrior gym much cooler.Despite just getting back from six straight days on the road with their AAU team, Josh Oglesby and Wes Washpun were sweating it out with the rest of their teammates. You've got to work hard to be a Division I college player, and that's what these two will likely end up being.Six-foot-1 guard Washpun has picked up a pair of D-I offers this summer - North Dakota State and South Dakota State. The 6-5 Oglesby is up to 11 D-I offers, including Arizona State, Boston College, Butler, Illinois, Northwestern and Minnesota."We've got two really quality players, really quality guards that on a national level are appreciated to some degree," said Washington Coach Brad Metzger.Unlike Iowa Barnstormers AAU teammate Jarrod Uthoff of Cedar Rapids Jefferson, neither of these guys is in a big hurry to make their college choice. Forward Uthoff has narrowed his list of potential college destinations to six and wants to make a final decision sometime this month.Word is Iowa might be in the lead. Iowa State and Northern Iowa also are among his finalists.Oglesby said his top five "right now" are UNI, Arizona State, Boston College, Minnesota and Illinois, in no particular order. But that could change. The Barnstormers will head to Las Vegas next week for a week-long tournament, where more scholarship offers could come. Oglesby has been a longtime fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, but first-year coach Fran McCaffery has not offered him."I'm not really disappointed," Oglesby said. "At the same time, I can't just sit back and wait for them to offer me. If they're not going to offer me, I'm going to have to move on. I'll put them aside and not worry about them too much. If they do offer me, I'll put them on my (list). Maybe not in my top five right away, but I'd put them in my options right away."Oglesby thanked Metzger and AAU coach Jamie Johnson for their work in helping develop him and for helping with his recruitment."There are a lot of parts that go into being successful (as a player)," Metzger said. "Your high school program is part of it. I don't think you can be successful without a good high school program. At the same time, the exposure and the competition (of AAU) is important. Even if it's sometimes selfish (basketball), you can still be defending and playing against great players.""It is fun, but at the same time, it has been stressful trying to figure out where I want to go," Oglesby said. "Trying to figure out what college is the best fit for me ... I'm just trying to narrow it down and not leave out a school that could be a good option for me. That's why I'm keeping everything open right now."Washpun said he also is open minded. He has some Division II offers to go along with the Dakotas."(This summer) has helped a lot," said Washpun, an athletic guard with tremendous quickness and jumping ability. "You've got guys on my team with the Barnstormers like Jarrod and Josh. They just get everybody that much more exposure."I always hoped this would happen. It's been a really exciting experience that's finally all coming together."Washpun was quick with a smile, as usual, when asked where he thought Oglesby would eventually end up."I sort of have an idea," he said. "But I don't think he'd want me to tell you."Here's video of Oglesby and Washpun going through a shooting drill Monday morning:
