A Cedar Falls man, who is charged in Black Hawk County with sexual abuse of an 8-year-old, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in federal court to two counts involving child pornography.
Edward Swingen, 43, pleaded not guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. A grand jury returned the indictment for those charges Tuesday.
A trial date was set for Sept. 13 and a magistrate ruled Swingen will remain in custody pending his trial.
The Cedar Rapids Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force conducted a forensic examination on Swingen's laptop computer after he was charged in the state case with second-degree sexual abuse, according to an affidavit for a search warrant.
Swingen, truck driver with Peters Construction in Waterloo, is accused in the state case of sexually abusing an 8-year-old child between 2006 and 2009. The child didn't make a statement to police about the abuse until 2009. A trial date is set for July 20 in Black Hawk County District Court.
Investigators found more than 100 downloaded images and videos depicting children under the age of 18, including prepubescent children, engaging in explicit sexual conduct and/or lasciviously displaying their bodies, according to the search warrant. Some of the pornography depicted bondage and bestiality.
Swingen admitted to police after the search on his laptop that he downloaded or viewed child pornograghy, according to the search warrant. He also admitted to the sexual abuse with the child.
