South Carolina’s Greene perseveres in victory

Nathanael Greene, a famous Revolutionary War general, drove the British out of South Carolina, and was rewarded with a plantation. However, he couldn't make a go of farming without slaves.
Alvin Greene, the veteran who recently won the Democratic primary for U.S. senator from South Carolina, may be a descendant of one of those slaves. He's the first black ever to win a Senate primary in South Carolina.
U.S. media have been virtually unanimous in disparaging Alvin Greene, while “The Guardian,” a British newspaper, had a July 6 article that treated him fairly.
One Huffington Post article mentioned that in high school he had the nickname “Turtle,” because he was an introvert.
The Guardian article made comments that proved Greene would lose in November, and then finished with, “Now where have I heard that before?”
There's a familiar allegory about a turtle that won a race with a rabbit.
