Vandals shattered about 20 windows in Central City overnight, authorities said.
Linn County Sheriff's Col. John Stuelke said at least 20 reports of criminal mischief had been taken by 11:30 a.m. He said the damage would likely add up to at least $5,000.
“It appears whoever did this used ball bearings, either with a slingshot or throwing them, to shatter mostly vehicle windows,” Stuelke said.
The reports involved personal vehicles, Stuelke said. A large window at the Central City school was also damaged. Deputies took one report outside of Central City, for a combine in Coggon that had a window smashed.
It appears the same suspects did all the damage, Stuelke said. No arrests have been made.
Anyone who has a report to make should call the Linn County Sheriff's Office at 319-398-3911.
