An audit shows officials from a troubled school board association haven't repaid thousands of dollars apparently misspent on bloated salaries and trips to exotic spots such as Bora Bora.
The audit by Des Moines accounting firm Brooks Lodden PC will be presented to an interim legislative panel Thursday. The Associated Press obtained a copy Wednesday.
The Government Oversight Committee has been investigating spending by the Iowa Association of School Boards, a private group largely financed by public school districts.
The audit found a credit card issued to the group was used not only for a much-publicized vacation in Bora Bora but also for meals, Internet purchases and video rentals. The audit found more than $1,200 in charges hadn't been repaid.
Nearly $90,000 in inflated salaries also hasn't been repaid.
