Officers stop intoxicated tree-chopping duo near Springville school

Linn County deputies arrested two people accused of trying to chop down trees near Springville High School early this morning.
Col. John Stuelke of the Linn County Sheriff's Office said James Devore, 19, of Springville, and Eric Frederick, 18, of rural Springville, were arrested and now face third-degree criminal mischief and public intoxication charges.
They were intoxicated when they damaged five trees near the school with an axe. They did not knock over any trees before authorities intervened around 1 a.m. Thursday.
