New Grassley votes in line with party
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jul. 25, 2010 12:48 am
We are seeing a new Chuck Grassley, and that was made clear by The Gazette article last Wednesday regarding his vote in Senate committee against U.S. Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan. The article pointed out that his vote against Kagan was only the second time he's voted against a nominee to the Supreme Court. The first was when he voted against President Barack Obama's other nominee, Sonia Sotomayor.
The old Grassley that I respected as the senator from Iowa gave nominees a fair chance and never found one lacking. The new Grassley now has seen two in a row that do not meet his standards.
I am sure that it is Grassley who is changing, not the nominees. I am observing that rather than vote for the best interest of Iowans as he did in the past, he is now voting lock-step with his party.
I think it is time for a change because he has changed. I am supporting Roxanne Conlin.
