Where is the line between winning and endangering a kid's health? That's for you to judge after Thursday afternoon's Class 1A state baseball tournament semifinal between Remsen St. Mary's and Mason City Newman.St. Mary's beat the defending state champion, 9-8, with a four-run rally in the sixth inning. The biggest story was St. Mary's pitcher Tanner Kockler, who improved to 11-3 with a complete-game victory. Kockler gave up nine hits and 10 walks, striking out eight. He threw 185 pitches in the game. Yes, 185.I'm not a smart man, but that absolutely cannot be good for an arm. I don't care how old you are, but especially when you are 16, 17, 18 years old.Kockler threw four innings in Remsen's 7-5 quarterfinal victory Saturday night over Southeast Warren. There are innings limits in high school baseball but not pitch limits. If there had been, Kockler never would have seen the seventh inning Thursday. He probably wouldn't have seen the fourth.
