The Eastern Iowa Airport was back to two runways Friday morning, after 25 days with only one.
The secondary runway at the airport was closed for about 25 days to reconstruct its intersection with the main runway.
“We breathed a little sight of relief that morning when the second runway was back in operation,” Airport Director Tim Bradshaw said.
The extra runway is important to allow aircraft to land into the wind, for air traffic control, and for backup in case of emergencies, Bradshaw said.
The work is part of a larger project that includes reconstruction of the Eastern Iowa Airport's main runway.
Bradshaw said the paving project is 70 percent done, and 80-90 percent of the runway's surface has been poured.
