Don’t twist Scripture to suit own needs
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 4, 2010 12:07 am
America, beware of those corrupting you through philosophy and vain deceit after the traditions of men, after the rudiments of the world and not after Christ. This warning, paraphrased from Colossians 2:8, is meant to expose the Obama administration's preaching of “social justice” and “collective salvation.” Twisting the concepts of the Founding Fathers, as well as the basic teachings of Christ, to compromise their meaning thus destroys God's gift of liberty.
President Obama's followers quote, “Judge not ...,” “love one another,” and “ ... the rich cannot enter the kingdom of God,” with the purpose of justifying the “updating” of Scripture in an effort to soften its “hard sayings.”
What would Jesus say to the July 13 letter, “Gazette stories should feature ‘real people'”? Perhaps, “Be not like my disciples complaining of waste (Matthew 26:6-13), but be an example.” Show this shopaholic how to be perfect by selling all you own, then giving it to the poor. “For there will always be poor among you.”
Many have overcome mankind's worse desires, because they remember, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
