UPDATE: Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek said Tuesday morning that the last owner of the pick up truck deputies found in Old Man's Creek removed the license plates before selling it two weeks ago.
Sheriff Pulkrabek said license plates should stay with the owner.
The Sheriff does not have any information on the person responsible for putting the truck into the creek because the incident likely occured prior to transferring the title.
Johnson County Sheriff's deputies were called to an area on Cosgrove Road about half a mile south of Black Diamond Road this evening. Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek says it appears the driver of a car drove through a road closed sign and then crashed the car into Old Man's Creek. When deputies arrived the car was empty and its license plates were missing. The sheriff did not say what type of car was found in the creek or what color it was.
The sheriff says the road is closed because a drunk driver crashed his truck into the bridge and took out the bridge over the creek in January of 2007 and it hasn't been fixed. In 2007 the county estimated 80 people used the bridge each day and it would have cost around 300-thousand dollars to replace it.
