Here is a study in the contrasts of coaching style.
Here's Iowa's offensive line coach Reese Morgan running his guys through opening drills on during Tuesday's practice. Business-like, quiet intensity. Players knowing the drills and performing them.
Iowa's D-line coach Rick Kaczenski runs his players through drills during a hot, hot Tuesday. There are a few minor blue words here, nothing you won't hear on TV anymore. Kaczenksi made sure true freshmen knew what was expected, especially the attention to detail that Iowa's coaches require. Coach Kirk Ferentz also had an eye on this group.
Every drill has a purpose.
It's not on film, but DE Adrian Clayborn said at the end of it, "If the devil were here right now, I'd punch him in the mouth."
That was a comment on the heat, which was smothering.
Before you yell about a player's performance, just know they're out in this furnace trying to figure it out. Respect the work they put in. It's immense.
