Give Second Avenue closing a trial run

In the Aug. 7 Gazette “Times of Our Lives” article: On Aug. 15, 1990, St. Luke's Hospital officials requested the City Council to close A Avenue between 10th and 12th streets for a one-month trial to provide better access to their main entrance. The City Council agreed. Don't think it turned out because today A Avenue is not closed.
Couldn't the same thing be done with Physicians' Clinic of Iowa's request to close Second Avenue SE? Let's have a couple of months' trial run before all the money is spent to change the traffic flow on all the streets involved and the final vote from the City Council.
The majority of citizens are in favor of the PCI medical mall project except for the closing of Second Avenue. It would behoove the planners of this mall to make the citizens happy rather than continuing this fight. The citizens don't have to use this facility - they still can go to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics or someplace else.
If you don't listen to the citizens now, what makes anyone think your doctor team will listen to the patients when they go for their appointments?
