FLOOD, FLOOD, FLOOD: Last month, it was the Lake Delhi Dam being wiped out by massive flooding. Last week, it was Ames, Colfax and the Des Moines area getting socked by three successive days of heavy thunderstorms. It caused flooding that killed a teenager, forced evacuation of hundreds of people and damaged eight buildings on the Iowa State University campus, including Hilton Coliseum.

ALCOHOL AUDITS: More mismanagement flagged in the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division. After the state auditor released a report last month finding that the agency failed to obtain competitive bids for major projects and other improper practices, an audit released last week showed the state's alcohol wholesaler understated by $476,000 the amount of liquor tax collections in the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2009. Also, some employee vacation time was underreported.

TRAFFIC TROUBLE: A one-month road construction delay related mostly to the wet summer is extending headaches for businesses and customers along Coralville's First Avenue. And Iowa Hawkeye football fans likely will feel the same pain this fall.
