Support rebuilding Lake Delhi dam
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 16, 2010 12:04 am
We are permanent residents of Iowa who have lived on Lake Delhi for 17 years. Before that, we owned a summer cottage here for another 10 years and have been coming to the lake for more than 50 years.
We learned to ski here and our children grew up boating, fishing and skiing on the lake. Now our grandchildren enjoy their weekends here with us in the summer.
We are fortunate not to have sustained a lot of damage from the recent flooding, but we do believe it is in the best interest of our area to have the dam rebuilt and the lake restored. As a member of the Lake Delhi Recreation Association, we also believe that the management of the dam and the lake has been done in a responsible and legal manner, trying to comply with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and other public regulators.
The damage is such that we will surely need public assistance and would appreciate your support.
