Aug. 17, 2010 8:01 pm
Iowa City's Andy Eckrich ranks among the leaders in the Deery Brothers Summer Series points standings. Eckrich entered Monday's late model race at the Iowa State Fairgrounds Speedway in Des Moines in second place, trailing only Ray Guss Jr., of Milan, Ill.
Eckrich earned a 13th-place finish Monday night and that should allow him to hold second place. He entered the race with an eight-point lead over third-place Jeff Aikey and a 10-point lead over Ely's Terry Neal, who was fourth in the points standings. Aikey, of Waterloo, and Neal finished eighth and ninth, respectively.
Eckrich captured his first win on the tour Aug. 3 by winning the feature at Farley Speedway.
Darren Miller, of Chadwick, Ill., took the checkered flag. It was his first win in the series since 2001.
The tour's next race is the Titan Tire and Wheel Shootout at Quincy (Ill.) Raceway on Friday, Sept. 3. The series returns to Iowa the following day, racing Saturday, Sept. 4 at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson.
