Road projects caused some delays, but otherwise buses ran about as expected for the first day of school in the Iowa City school district, officials said.
Some buses ran late in the morning because of road construction, with North Liberty families affected the worst, but otherwise there were no major issues, said Paul Bobek, the district's executive director of administrative services.
There are 10 to 12 significant construction zones on bus routes, he said, including Highway 965 in North Liberty.
West High Principal Jerry Arganbright reported no big concerns with bus routes, which he said was “amazing” for the first day of school.
After a couple of days, the district and its bus provider, Durham School Services, will evaluate bus times and make changes if necessary, Bobek said.
The district is operating 98 buses this fall.
