Apartment fire extinguished by sprinkler system

A fifth floor apartment fire was extinguished by the building's sprinkler system early Sunday morning.
According to a news release from the Iowa City Fire Department, crews were dispatched to 630 S. Capitol Street at around 4:30 a.m. for a possible fire. Upon arrival, there were no visible flames from the exterior of the five story, 28 unit building. Fire crews found the fire had already been extinguished in the fifth floor unit after entering the complex.
All occupants were evacuated from the building and there were no injuries in the blaze. A preliminary estimate of the damages is $50,000, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
