Police arrested a Cedar Rapids motorcycle driver Thursday after he allegedly zoomed through a neighborhood at speeds faster than 75 mph.
Matthew G. Beranek, 30, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested around 1:20 p.m. in the 200 block of 12th St. NW, about a block away from his home, after he tried to get away from police. Officers originally tried to stop him for running a stop sign near C Avenue and 19th Street NW.
Sgt. Joe Clark said officers first located the abandoned motorcycle, and then found Beranek hiding in a garage nearby.
Beranek faces charges of driving with a suspended license, fraudulent use of registration, proof of insurance, attempting to elude, speeding and the stop sign violation.
