Don’t allow Lake Delhi to become a memory

The pictures in the Aug. 18 Gazette of “Venetian Night” made me happy and sad at the same time. Happy that it has returned to Cedar Rapids and sad because we, too, were to have a similar night on Lake Delhi on July 31 that is called “Christmas in July.” However, Mother Nature had other plans this year. Our grandchildren and friends were looking forward to that night, and talk often of their memories of past events.
Lake Delhi provided so much fun for everyone. Boating was very popular but the fishing there was second to none in Iowa. Don't forget the national award-winning ski team, “the Hartwick Huskeys.”
The wildlife on the lake is also something important to consider. Numerous bald eagles and great blue herons call Lake Delhi their home and depend on it to raise their young.
We need, Iowa needs, Lake Delhi. There are so few places left as beautiful and for everyone to enjoy. Please, show your support and do not let another Iowa landmark become just another “great memory.”
