Breast Cancer Awareness match raises $3,526

On Sept. 2, the Marion and Benton Community volleyball programs partnered together to play a Breast Cancer Awareness game at Marion High School.Both varsity teams wore pink jerseys for the game. A short ceremony was held prior to the start of the varsity game to honor breast cancer survivors in attendance.Fundraising for the event included both schools selling pink T-shirts with the slogan of “Hit Like A Girl”, as well as donation challenges in the week leading up to the game. Proceeds from fundraising activities will benefit the Cedar Rapids-based “Especially for You” program. “Especially for You” provides free mammograms and other breast care services to area individuals in need.A check was sent to Especially for You -- Mercy Women's Center for $3,526.21.
