Cedar Rapids Kennedy senior Christian French has been selected to play in the 2011 U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 8 in San Antonio, Texas.French will be recognized and presented with his game-jersey for the All-Star game during halftime of the Cougars' game against Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Friday, Oct. 1 at Kingston Stadium.Below is the email submitted to SourceMedia Group News about the event:The U.S. Army will be in Cedar Rapids on Friday, October 1st to select a deserving young man to be a part of the 2011 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. This selection is a great honor – only 90 high school football players among the millions in the United States are selected each year. Players are chosen not just because they excel on the football field, but because they embody the same values of our Army Strong Soldiers.Army representatives will be on-site at Kingston Stadium at 7:15 p.m. on Friday for the kick off of Kennedy's game against Jefferson. Near the conclusion of halftime, Christian will be presented with his ceremonial game jersey in front of friends, family and teammates, as well as several thousand well-wishers in the stands. The Army representative who will be presenting Christian with his jersey also has a local connection. Command Sergeant Major Todd Moore starred as a quarterback at Jefferson in the early 1980s. His family still lives in Cedar Rapids.With his selection, Christian French from Kennedy High School will join an impressive list of U.S Army All-Americans that includes more than 100 first-round NFL draft picks and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow. NFL stars such as Adrian Peterson, Mark Sanchez and Vince Young all count themselves among the alumni of the All-American Bowl.As part of the All-American Bowl, each player selected to play in the game is honored at a Selection Tour event in his hometown. The tour crosses the country through late fall and by its end will have selected 90 players, in addition to 125 band and color guard members who will participate in the game on Jan. 8, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas.Annually, the All-American Bowl is the Army's largest public outreach effort, allowing the Army to share its story with tens of millions of people.
