Keep 21 ordinance, help students succeed

As a parent of three small children, I believe one of the most important issues on the November ballot is the threat to the city's new ordinance requiring 21 only in bars after 10 p.m. This law not only protects our children, but it is vital to public health and safety. We all want our kids to succeed. With reduced underage access to alcohol downtown through the 21 ordinance, those chances have greatly increased.
Alcohol issues pose a threat to our kids' academic and extracurricular success. Educators and administrators in our community understand this. That's why we've seen so many educators line up behind the “21 Makes Sense” movement. They know that it's critical to student achievement and helps ensure safe and healthy choices.
The educators at the University of Iowa know this as well and have been instrumental in their support of the ordinance and raising awareness in the community.
Please join me in voting “no” to keep the 21 ordinance in place.
