Tax money isn’t spent wisely, vote for change

If Julie Freese (Sept. 28 letter) believes that she isn't paying enough taxes, she's welcome to send a check or money order payable to the U.S. Treasury.
Those of us who believe we're paying enough don't need to be made to pay more just because we're being taxed at a relatively lower rate than at some time in the past. I know there are folks this year who would like to “correct” that situation. But, maybe we're still being taxed too much.
Ask political office holders what they did with our money the last time they took our taxes. What proven, marvelous benefits will result with more tax money?
Ask the candidates how they plan to be good stewards of the money they get from us.
Also, the desire to overtax the highest earners is counterproductive. They are the people who are able to start businesses and hire workers. They need the money to do so, and a stable economic climate in which to work.
The wealthy pay a large percent of their income in taxes, disproportionately to everyone else. Maybe they can “afford” it. But maybe they could do even more and better things with their money through job creation and investments in business and the community.
I'm certainly not one of the wealthy ones, but I believe we're taxed enough and that our tax money isn't being used as well as it should be. Vote Nov. 2 for the people you want to be spending your money.
