Homers: What's going right

WONDERFUL WEATHER: People always talk about the weather, usually to complain. But we've had a two-week run of abundant sunshine, low humidity and moderate to pleasantly cool weather, giving us with much reason to celebrate and enjoy - especially after a summer drenched with clouds, rain and junglelike conditions.

MONEY MAP: Linn County Auditor Joel Miller and staff have produced maps that help taxpayers track where the county gets its money and how it's spent - a clearer way to help explain the complicated budgeting process. The maps are displayed at the auditor's office at Westdale Mall, and Miller tells us he plans to have them available online in the near future.

COLORFUL FANS: Iowa Hawkeye football fans put on their own impressive performance during the big victory at home Oct. 2 over Big Ten rival Penn State. The television view was eye-catching, too. Virtually every Iowa supporter in Kinnick Stadium seemed to be dressed the part to help create those visually stunning, alternate bands of gold-out and black-out. A treat even if you're not big into football.
