Fire damages Cedar Rapids home

Two people escaped a Cedar Rapids house fire uninjured on Sunday morning. Firefighters were called to a home at 1218 33rd Street NE shortly before 10:15 a.m. Sunday.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they encountered a fire in the basement of the single-story home, in an area above a wood-burning stove. Officials say fire damage was limited to areas around the stove to the ventilation pipe above the roof. There was light smoke and water damage to other areas of the home.
The American Red Cross is assisting the two people displaced by the fire.
