Vote to reshape Iowa’s water, land legacy
The Gazette Opinion Staff

As a resident of the Hawkeye state and a true supporter of protecting our wild places, I have never been more enthusiastic about a piece of legislation that could redeem the land ethic once apparent across Iowa.
The proposed state constitutional amendment on the Nov. 2 ballot is referred to as Iowa's Water and Land Legacy. It would create a trust fund to protect our diminishing natural resources.
What happened to the land ethics of Iowa-born Aldo Leopold? We need to step back and ask ourselves what we care about most. Clean water? Agricultural soil? Outdoor opportunities? Abundant wildlife?
These are all things that we can protect by voting “yes” on the amendment. Investment in our natural resources is needed now more than ever. So what will your legacy be?
