By this point, we should all know that Terry Branstad opposed the flood recovery projects in I-JOBS and that he still does not have any plan to prevent future flood damage.
But did you know that one of our own state represenatatives from Cedar Rapids, Renee Schulte, also voted against I-JOBS, and that she has not presented any plan for flood recovery or preventing future flood damage?
Voting against I-JOBS was a vote against more than $70 million in state assistance for flood recovery for city and county facilities. If not paid for by I-JOBS, these projects would either not be happening - bad - or they would have had to be paid for property tax increases, more than $350 per person in Linn County - also bad.
It is one thing to vote no. It is another thing not to have an alternative plan. I have scoured Schulte's record and her website and have not found any alternative proposal for funding flood recovery or preventing future flood damage in Cedar Rapids.
In tough times, we need a state representative who will put the needs of our community above the ideology of a political party. I am voting for Mark Seidl for state representative.
