Underage drinking longstanding problem in I.C.
N/A
Oct. 30, 2010 12:48 am
Since the implementation last summer of Iowa City's 21 Only ordinance, I've noticed the improvement in our downtown sidewalk situation.
Last winter I was going to my favorite coffee house, next to a bar, at 6:30 a.m. and there was pink frozen vomit that I have to skate over to get into the coffee house. It is particularly appalling that a stain from the vomit has lasted through this fall. As I am handicapped, I found it very difficult to get over the frozen vomit with my cane.
I told Mrs. Campion, a downtown store owner and council member, how sad I was that she had to close because of customers who were fighting and being contentious in front of her store on an afternoon of an Iowa football home game.
It has been a long-standing problem of underage college drinking since I was a resident assistant in Currier Hall in 1957. Many of the same problems related to drinking and sexual abuse that happened in 1957 are prevalent today.
Please do not overlook your right to vote. This matter is of the utmost importance. Vote no to the repeal in the upcoming election.
