Buy local foods to help our farms and economy

Iowa contains 10 percent of the world's richest farmland, yet 1,200 farms go out of business each year. On top of that, Iowans spend 80 percent of our food dollars on food that comes from
out of this state and
country. What can be done to change this tragic trend?
We can start buying more food from our local farmers. We could make stronger laws against buying up rich farmland. We could export fewer weapons and more food to poor countries.
Buying Iowa-produced foods helps keep our farms running and helps make our economy strong.
