Man gets 90 days in jail for giving vodka to puppy

An Iowa City man will serve 90 days in jail for a allegedly coaxing a puppy to drink vodka more than a year ago.
According to police, Jared L. Colony, 29, was watching a 4-month-old puggle puppy with a friend in October 2009. Police said while Colony was watching the dog for the owner, the man poured vodka and encouraged the puppy to drink.
When the owner returned, he found the dog unresponsive and barely breathing. Police said Colony allegedly told the owner the dog was “a little drunk.”
Colony was arrested and charged with animal abuse, and aggravated misdemeanor. Colony agreed to enter a guilty plea last week in exchange for a 90-day jail sentence. He also agreed to pay a $625 fine and $2,493.07 to the dog's owner.
