Hlas' AP Top 25 ballot for Week 12
Mike Hlas Nov. 21, 2010 12:16 am
Four unbeatens. Three didn't play this week. The other did, and won. So, no changes of significance here.
I think Boise State has the best team in the country. Really. But that schedule ... this week, however, the Broncos go to 10-1 Nevada, which crushed California, which almost beat Oregon.
Let's do this thing.
1. Oregon (10-0)
2. Auburn (11-0). I'll be just sick if I find out the Tigers bought their quarterback.
3. TCU (11-0). The Frogs are at woeful New Mexico Saturday. It could be the first time a team has ever scored minus-points.
4. Boise State (10-0)
5. Wisconsin (10-1).
I'd watch a Boise State-Wisconsin Rose Bowl. I'd watch a Stanford-Wisconsin Rose Bowl. I won't watch a New Mexico-Wisconsin Rose Bowl.
6. Stanford (10-1). A Stanford player threw a pregame punch at a Cal player. Precious.
7. LSU (10-1). At Arkansas Saturday. The Hogs will get that one.
8. Ohio State (10-1). Its win over Iowa was its first over a ranked team since it beat Miami in Week 2.
9. Oklahoma State (10-1). Oklahoma at Okie State Saturday night. Big times in Stillwater.
10. Alabama (9-2). That rout of Georgia State on Thursday night was ... weird. Georgia State?
11. Michigan State (10-1). MSU won't make it to a BCS game even if it's 11-1 after it plays at Penn State.
12. Arkansas (9-2).
13. Virginia Tech (9-2). Nine straight wins. Remember when Tech was 0-2 after losing to James Madison and people said Boise State accomplished nothing by beating the Hokies?
14. Nevada (10-1). This team is very good. Not good enough to beat Boise State Friday night in Reno, but very good.
15. Texas A&M (8-3).
Five straight wins, including Oklahoma and Nebraska.
16. Nebraska (9-2). Huskers will beat Colorado Friday, play in the Big 12 title game the following Saturday.
17. Missouri (9-2). Which Big 12 bowls will snub the Tigers because they don't bring fans, a la the Insight last year?
18. Oklahoma (9-2). This week: Bedlam. That's what they call OU-Oklahoma State down there.
19. South Carolina (8-3
). Improved to 2-1 against the state of Alabama this year by crushing Troy.
20. Northern Illinois (9-2). Has 124 points in its last two games and is getting meaner and meaner.
21. Utah (9-2). Good road win over a good San Diego State team to stop the bleeding of a 2-game losing streak.
22. Florida State (8-3). I've said it before this year. Why did AP ever go from a Top 20 to a Top 25? Twenty is plenty.
23. North Carolina State (8-3). Because it's 8-3.
24. Arizona (7-3). Because it's 7-3.
25. Iowa (7-4). The four teams that all beat the Hawkeyes by one score have a combined record of 34-8. So that's something.
