Tuesday video -- Ferentz
Marc Morehouse
Nov. 23, 2010 2:41 pm
Opening statement, RB Adam Robinson out, Minnesota QB Adam Weber, KR Troy Stoudermire, no team meal on Thanksgiving Day. Ferentz had been opposed to Thanksgiving week games, but he'll do what he's told to do. "I love whatever I'm told to do." Team is bunkered this week without school.
More on RB Robinson, RB Marcus Coker and LB corps, more Coker and successes against Minnesota and getting off the turf for this week. Ferentz was asked what he would've said if in August someone would've told him his RB would be Coker, a true freshman, and the LBs would be down to newbies. "I don't mind telling you I had an ominous feeling when Marcus fractured his collarbone."
Mindset of his team, fourth-quarter defense, TCF Bank Stadium, outside practices in the cold this week, old-time Minnesota weather and the opponent for the season finale. WARNING: There is talk of freeze-dried nostrils on this video. Not for the squeamish.
Some more fourth-quarter stuff, the Hawkeyes will practice on Thanksgiving Day and be out by noon or so, overeating and 2008. The fact that they're practicing on Thursday says a lot about the mindset. Also, near the end here, Ferentz is asked about running backs beyond Saturday and the bowl.
8-4 is better than 7-5, would Ferentz lobby for a bowl, more Weber, LB Jeff Tarpinian is out but bowl return is realistic, something on after Tim Brewster up in Minny, has an AD called Ferentz for hiring advice, early NFL entrants.
Iowa has a few possibilities for early entries in the NFL draft.
"I think any juniors we have are better served to stay in,' Ferentz said.
Iowa has missed more gametime this season because of concussions than any other, Ferentz said. Robinson and RB Paki O'Meara have missed games because of concussions. "Concussions are part of football," Ferentz said. "I know they're talked about more than they were before, but I don't want to turn this into 'Days of Our Lives,' 'General Hospital.' . . . It's just part of the game." Also, a Brandon Wegher question.
