Miller: Prairie has not contacted me

CEDAR RAPIDS -- For now at least, the Kevin Miller-to-Cedar Rapids Prairie speculation is just that.Speculation. And rumors.Miller, who has coached Solon to four consecutive state football championships, said the following in an e-mail Wednesday morning:"I haven't spoken with anyone from Prairie concerning the vacancy. All the talk is just rumors at this point."The Prairie job has been vacant since Craig Jelinek stepped down after the Hawks completed a 2-7 season. You'd have to figure that Miller would be at the top of the list for Prairie, or any other 4A program in Eastern Iowa with a vacancy, for that matter. He's young. He's personable and likable. And he's a winner personified. In 10 years at Solon, he owns a record of 105-15, and that includes a 3-6 record in his first year there. The last four years have been magical -- a 54-1 record (including a 42-game winning streak) and four straight titles. No other program had won four straight until the Spartans pulled it off Saturday.Solon ruled Class 2A in 2007, 2008 and 2009, then moved up a class and won the 3A title with a 45-7 rout of Sioux City Heelan last week. Here is a quote from Miller, last year, when asked if he would end his coaching career at Solon:"I really do take things one day at a time. If the right opportunity presented itself, I don't know."
