THANKSGIVING SPIRIT: Cheers to all the groups and volunteers who sponsored and worked at free Thanksgiving holiday meals in the Corridor and beyond so that everyone had a chance to enjoy good food and camaraderie - especially those who couldn't be part of a family gathering or couldn't afford such a feast. Some of these traditions are decades-long, such as the one conducted by AEGON USA and Aging Services. It took root in 1980 when Cedar Rapids dentist Duane Schmidt sponsored it. The River Community Church in Iowa City marked its 28th annual Thanksgiving dinner.

COUNSELING NETWORK: The widespread use of social media spreads rumors and news of tragedies much faster, including incidents at schools. In order to respond faster and help students who need counseling and support, the College Community school district wants to create a network of clergy members who can be tapped for quick assistance to augment school counselors' efforts.

FEEDING STUDENTS: Thanks to an anonymous financial donor, Grant Wood Elementary School recently joined several other Cedar Rapids schools by sending, on Fridays, packs of food home with students who are at risk of going hungry over the weekend. Volunteers assist the effort.
