Cameras could police stop sign violators

A good way to lower property taxes would be to put cameras at stop sign intersections. People are really getting used to not stopping at stop signs.
On Nov. 8, we were driving west on Fourth Avenue SE when a woman in an SUV tore across Fourth Avenue, without even slowing down at her stop sign. Good thing we were defensive driving. If we were 10 feet closer to the intersection, we would have been broadsided at full speed. Another vehicle was even closer to that intersection.
This practice is getting worse. I can stand on a corner of Mount Vernon Road waiting for the city bus and see 50 percent to 75 percent of the drivers not stopping at that particular sign any given day. Are you so sure there is no one walking or a car close enough to hit not to stop?
Also, get off the cell phone and drive. Maybe all the increased cell phone use is part of this growing problem.
This city would make a fortune issuing tickets to stop sign violators. Also, maybe the police need an enhanced stop sign safety awareness program.
