Branstad, look back before going forward

Governor-elect Terry Branstad says he “never looks back.”
As an older Iowan, I look back all the time.
I remember an Iowa without state-sponsored gambling. A state with family farms instead of factory farms. Streams and rivers in which I could swim and fish. Vital small towns and manufacturing industries.
I remember when Iowa students led the nation in test scores. I remember roads and bridges that were well-maintained, and even passenger trains that went 100 mph!
My marriage isn't threatened by gays or activist judges. I'm willing to grant everyone else the same rights and privileges I enjoy.
I hope our new governor will work on some of the real problems this state faces. He helped create them.
