Vehicle recalls should be taken seriously

It is disconcerting to me that on the national news last evening (Dec. 21), they had a bit about auto safety recalls. A recent recall after six weeks has only seen 15 percent of those vehicles returned to their local dealer.
I had a recalled vehicle about that same time. I immediately called for an appointment. It took about 10 minutes to verify that my vehicle did in fact have the problem. The dealer immediately gave me a rental car. Unfortunately, the parts may not be available for 90 days or more. However, I was told if my vehicle had been just slightly older, the company would have offered to buy it from me.
These safety recalls are generally the result of a defect that causes serious accidents. Do your family a favor and follow up on any safety recalls. It may save a life.
If you have had a vehicle included in a recall but had already replaced it, if you know where it went, please let them know as well. The manufacturer may not have the new owner's contact information. The new owner may not even be aware they are driving an unsafe vehicle.
