Reading of Constitution good for lawmakers
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Dec. 31, 2010 2:30 pm
A Dec. 23 Washington Times article by Stephen Dinan informed its readers that new rules proposed by the incoming House Republicans will “call for a full reading of the country's founding document (i.e. Constitution) on the floor of the House on Jan. 6. The goal, backers said, is to underscore the limited-government rules the Founders imposed on Congress - and to try to bring some of those principles back into everyday legislating.”
Imagine that: a full reading of a document that all representatives have sworn to uphold for the purpose of emphasizing the wisdom of our Founders. Who could object to such an exercise without tacitly condemning their own agendas as unconstitutional, and admitting they are at odds with the first premise of American government - that it be limited?
