Cedar Rapids police arrested Timothy L. Rush after he led them on a chase late Thursday night.
Police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said two officers were out of their patrol car in the 1400 block of Bever Avenue SE about 11:45 p.m. when they saw a speeding white car run the stop sign at the 15th Street intersection and continue south.
The officers returned to their squad car, but the white car was already turning onto Mt. Vernon Road. Another officer spotted Rush's car turn back onto 15th Street, then onto 12th Avenue, then to 16th Street SE where it stopped, then started again as officers were getting out of their cars.
Rush went south on 16th Street to the Otis Road intersection, where he failed to turn at the “T” intersection and went over the embankment. Rush ran off, but a police dog and his handler tracked him to the 1100 block of 15th Street SE where he was arrested.
In addition to several traffic counts, Rush was booked into the Linn County Jail on suspicion of attempting to elude, possession of a controlled substance (for a baggie of marijuana), driving without a license, and interference with official acts causing injury, for an officer who cut his finger while checking the wreckage of Rush's car.
Rush, 21, of 385 15th St. SE, was released from jail after an initial court appearance this morning.
