The city of Iowa City will host an open house Jan. 27 to receive public input on the future redevelopment of the area south of Burlington Street now known as the Riverfront Crossings District.
Representatives from the city, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and consultants HDR Inc. and SRA International Inc. will present the proposed plan.
The discussion will focus on transforming the southern portion of Riverfront Crossings from a quasi-industrial area and wastewater treatment plant into a walkable urban neighborhood featuring a new waterfront park along the Iowa River, according to a news release.
Riverfront Crossings is roughly bordered by Burlington Street to the north, Highway 6 to the south, Gilbert Street to the east, and the Iowa River to the west.
The event is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. in Meeting Room A of the Iowa City Public Library, 123 Linn St. A formal presentation is scheduled for 5:15 p.m., with an open house to follow.
